How to Use the IPO Return Calculator

1. Enter the IPO Price

This is the price per share at the IPO offering — the price you bought at, not the first-day trading price (unless that's when you purchased).

2. Enter the Sell or Current Price

If you've sold, enter the sell price. If you still hold the shares, enter the current market price to see unrealized gains.

3. Enter Your Share Count and Dates

The number of shares you received in the IPO allocation. Enter the IPO date and sell date to calculate holding period and annualized returns (CAGR).

Understanding IPO Returns

What is an IPO Return?

An IPO return measures the profit or loss from investing in a company's initial public offering. It compares the IPO offer price to the current or sell price, expressed as a dollar amount, percentage, or annualized rate.

What is CAGR (Annualized Return)?

CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) normalizes your return over the holding period, making it easy to compare investments held for different lengths of time. A 100% return over 5 years is very different from 100% over 1 year — CAGR captures this.

IPO Price vs. First-Day Close

The IPO offer price is what institutional investors and some retail investors pay before the stock starts trading. The first-day opening or closing price can be significantly higher (an "IPO pop"). Make sure you're calculating based on your actual purchase price.
